As a business owner, you probably know that shoplifting is a real danger to your livelihood. Do you wonder why that is? The main reason is because shoplifting is pretty easy to do. If you think about it, a shoplifter has access to lots of merchandise when he is in your store. And if you are like many stores, you do not have a robust security strategy in place.

Spotting a shoplifter is no easy task, either. It would be nice if you could identify a shoplifter just by looking at him, but you can't. Some shoplifters may look like the last person you would expect to see trying to steal from you! Some shoplifters are even well off!

The good news is that there are some easy ways to decrease the risk of shoplifting being something that have to deal with. One way is to install a commercial camera system. The reality is that shoplifters are not going to steal if they think they are being watched! Therefore, by putting in cameras and making sure these cameras are visible, you may lower your risk.

Have you ever heard of convex mirrors? These mirrors, once installed, allow you and your workers to view the corners and aisles of your business. And since these cost less money than commercial camera systems, you can use both to save money and protect your business.

If possible, you should also only have one entrance and one exit to your building. The more places a shoplifter can get in and out without being noticed, the more likely you will be the victim of shoplifting. It is also a good idea to hire a security guard to stand at each exit.

Electronic security tags are another smart way to decrease shoplifting. You can get the kind of tags that, if removed by a customer, will actually cause damage to the product. Make sure to use large tags, so the customers will be sure to notice them. This may discourage shoplifters from going to the trouble of stealing!
