Art is often used to raise money in order to aid non profit organizations with certain causes like helping victims of a typhoon or helping the poor. Now what a lot of people would do is gather a lot of artworks from local artists and would hold fundraising art auctions in order to dispose of these artworks and get some money. Now if one would want to hold one of these things, then here are a few steps to make it successful.

Of course if one would want to have an art auction, then the very first thing that he has to do is to gather artworks. Now when holding this kind of thing, he has to gather as many kinds of artworks as possible like paintings or sculptures. He may even include other types of modern art like photographs or other handcrafted works.

Now the hard part about holding an auction like this is actually getting artists to provide the artworks for the event. If one has connections with an art gallery or museum then this is definitely no problem. However, if one does not, then one thing he may do is try to team up with an art school and give them a proposal that is approved by the supporting organization.

Once one has already made the necessary connections in order to get the artworks, then the next thing to do would be to get a good auctioneer. Now one may actually opt to organize the entire event by himself. However, if he does not have much experience in auctioning, then it is actually better if he would hire a professional to help out.

Not only will these professional auctioneers know how to be able organize this kind of event, but they can also help with the evaluation of the artworks. A good art auctioneer knows his stuff and knows how he is going to sell the artworks. He also knows what their real value is and how to be able to market them.

So once all of those preparations have been made, then the next thing to do would be to promote the event. One should hang up fliers, spread the news on social media websites, and of course talk about it. Of course he should not forget to mention that this event is for a good cause because people will be more willing to attend if he does.

Of course before the auction starts, one has to decide what the opening bid for each item would be. Basically, the opening bid is the starting price of the item. For example, if the opening bid of a painting is around ten dollars, then the participants would start at ten dollars and make the bid keep on going higher.

One also has to decide how the participants are going to pay. More often than not, most small auctions would only accept cash so that things are not going to be hard for them. However, if the auction is rather big, then they may also accept other forms of payment like check or even payment through online banking.
