The Work Of Dry Ice Blasting Services

Dry ice blasting or carbon dioxide cleaning refer to the process of using dry ice to clean a surface. In this technique, solid ice or carbon dioxide is accelerated in an air stream and then directed to the surface that is to be cleaned. Dry ice blasting acts in the same way as other methods such as sand, soda, and plastic bead blasting. The main advantage of carbon dioxide cleaning is that it does not leave any chemical residue behind, making it an environmentally friendly method. This is the process that dry ice blasting services engage in.

During this method, the ice pellets are propelled at a high speed towards the surface that is being cleaned. Once the pellets collide with the surface, they sublime thus transferring the energy to the surface. This produces minimal abrasion. During sublimation, a lot of heat from the surface is absorbed that eventually produces shear stress due to heat shock.

The rate of thermal conductivity between the surface and the contaminant is a factor which this method relies on. It makes the process more efficient. The process of converting a substance from a solid state directly to a gaseous state is what happens during sublimation. The sublimation enables the elimination of the contaminant by creating shock waves. The less important wastes are produced by water blasting but not dry ice cleaning.

There are two forms in which one can use this method. These include the solid pellet form and shaving the ice from a block. The shaved ice block method is not reliable as is it produces ice, which is less effective as compared to the solid pellets. There are three primary factors that facilitate the process of dry ice blasting. They include thermal shock effect, thermal kinetic effect, and pellet kinetic energy.

Dry ice blasting as a method came from abrasive blasting as an improvement. The machines used to perform dry ice blasting is different from the one used to do standard blasting. The difference lies in the way the two machines are used. The pellets of solid CO2 must be used at a sublimation temperature and is what makes them different from other materials.

This cleaning technique is applied in various situations including cleaning food processing equipment. In such applications, it is used to cleanse the surface of contaminants like listeria microorganisms, E.coli, and Salmomella enteretidis. After cleaning the surface is free of these contaminants such that they cannot be detected when tested. Its other advantage includes the ability to clean equipment without posing the risk of electrical complication or fire.

Proper ventilation is recommended while using the machine. Carbon dioxide is toxic and can cause death if good measures are not taken. Carbon dioxide normally accumulates in the body and reduces the efficiency with which the body absorbs oxygen. When oxygen deficiency prolongs, biological processes in the body are affected and this can lead to serious health problems.

Another factor that should be considered is the position of the exhaust vents in the room where dry ice cleaning occurs. Normally the exhaust vents should be placed at the bottom area of the room. This is important since carbon dioxide is denser than air.
