The increased population of geese has become basically a nuisance to quite a lot of states where they are found. This is because most of these fowl lead to unsanitary conditions, property destruction and even lead to aircraft strikes. There effects towards the ecosystem and human health is detrimental leading to the employment of Goose Control New York strategies. Managing their population could bring more balance to the ecosystem.

Some of the negative human-goose interactions lead to issues like aircraft strikes, damage of plants and at times environmental degradation. Usually, there are examples strategies that can be used such as placing signage and boards in parks that discourages attraction of the fowl. This is done by telling people to avoid feeding them in parks or because this keeps them coming and an increase of their feces poses as an environmental risk.

There can also be regulations set concerning habitat modification. Different fowl species prefer settling down in areas that have neatly cut grass, a water pond and open spaces. This means they are more attracted to private land such as school institutions and parks. Informing land owners on the need to replace the shortly cut grass with long tall vegetation that can survive along water bodies will encumber the fowls from getting attracted.

Since these birds have a longer period of fertility which starts as early as 2 years, regulating their breeding rate is necessary. Destruction of their nest is only a short term solution; however, going for the eggs gives better results. You can destroy the eggs before they hatch by applying three tactics; immersing them in oil preferably cooking oil which reduces oxygen supply to the embryo, vigorous shaking of the egg and a small puncture to the egg shell.

Landowners can also employ the use of harassment of the birds this can be done through the use of passive and active harassment strategies. Some of them include using flagging which involves the use of papers tied up to a post to scare them, using silhouettes of dogs or coyotes or even a human structure which can scar them away. The other method can be to use noise making tools like geese distress calls.

You may have heard of bird hunting season in most local areas. This is also a strategy to regulate their population especially in places where they frequent. Local authorities often give permission to hunters at a certain period for them to hunt them down. Hunting together with the use of noise making tools provide a short term solution to reducing their population.

Scientifically approved chemical substances for controlling the productive rate of these fowls is also used. The chemical is meant for consumption whereby it is placed in bread-like food which is given to the birds. The substance allows the birds to lay some eggs but the eggs do not hatch into more birds.

The use of repellents can also help in keeping most of the birds away. There are some chemicals that have been approved by drug departments which have no effect to human health but when sprayed on vegetation, they make food inedible for the bird which sends them away.
